WHITE RIVER JUNCTION โ€” The Hartford Police Department has identified the deceased man found under the Urban Bridge in White River Junction on Sunday as a 40-year-old from St. Albans, Vt.

After receiving a tip, police discovered Jason Bennettโ€™s body under the Urban Bridge, which sits between the Bugbee Senior Center and the Co-op Food Store, at around 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Responding officers located Bennett โ€œbeneath a support structure on the south end of the bridge,โ€ Hartford Police stated in a Tuesday news release.ย

Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation did not reveal any obvious signs of trauma, police said.

Along with Hartford Police and the Hartford Fire Department, an investigator with the Vermont Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded to the scene. Bennettโ€™s body was subsequently transported to the Medical Examinerโ€™s Office for an autopsy.

โ€œThe cause and manner of death remain undetermined pending the results of the autopsy,โ€ police said in the Tuesday news release.

Late last month, Daybreak reported a fire at an encampment of abandoned tents and debris below the bridge and along the riverbank, where syringes were also scattered.
