The search for a new head coach for Dartmouth menโs basketball did not last long, as Brett MacConnell has been tabbed to lead the program going forward.
MacConnell, who was an assistant for the Stanford menโs basketball team this past season, was a coach at Princeton for 13 years before that, seven of which were in the capacity of the associate head coach.
โBrett’s deep knowledge of the Ivy League and his ability to identify and develop student-athletes set him apart during our national search,โ said Dartmouth Director of Athletics and Recreation Mike Harrity, in a news release announcing the hire.

He added: โThe way he connects with people, from the recruits to the team and beyond, is exceptional, and his drive, vision, and plan for our program is exactly what Dartmouth Men’s Basketball needs.โ
During his tenure at Princeton, the Tigers won the Ivy League four times and made a run to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament in 2023. Stanford is 20-12 this season.
โDartmouth is one of the premier institutions in the country, and it’s an honor to join the Dartmouth community,โ MacConnell said in the news release. โOur goal is to build a men’s basketball program that reflects the values of the institutionโone that competes at a high level and represents Dartmouth with pride, integrity, and consistency.โ
MacConnell replaces David McLaughlin, who compiled an 87-161 overall record and a 41-85 record in the Ivy League, having coached the Big Green since 2016.
The Big Green finished 11-16 overall and 5-9 in conference play this past season.
