Lawrence Wight

Hanover, NH – Lawrence Leon Wight, 85, of Weathersfield, Vermont, passed away on March 23, 2026, surrounded by his family after a long and meaningful life defined by curiosity, creativity, learning, and a deep love for the natural world. Born August 19, 1941, in Claremont, New Hampshire, Larry devoted his life to education, teaching and leading in schools across Vermont, New Hampshire, and Alaska.

He often said his soul was split between Alaska and Vermont. In Girdwood, Alaska, he taught middle school and explored the wilderness before returning to his beloved Weathersfield home, where he lived for nearly 50 years. A passionate educator, he was known for advocating for students who needed support in strengthening their self-worth.

He shared a remarkable 70-year love story with his high school sweetheart and wife, Dottie.

In later years, Larry lived with Alzheimer’s disease, yet the core memories he worked so hard to preserve remained the most vivid.

He is survived by his wife, Dottie; daughter Shelley Alflen (Robert); granddaughters Kayla Staples (Graham) and Kaidance Craig (Ryan); great-grandchildren Exelia and Gauge; and niece Jennifer Johnston.

He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering belief in others. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched.
