Hoyt for state legislature
Residents of Barnard, Bridgewater, Hartford, and Pomfret, I am running for reelection to the Legislature and ask for your support. I was appointed as the representative for the Windsor-4 district in December by Gov. Scott.
I was raised in Norwich and attended UVM. I have lived in the Upper Valley my entire life excepting the years I was in college and law school. I moved to West Hartford with my wife, Natalie, in 2017.
I served for five years on the Hartford Selectboard, three as chairman, and brought stability during a tumultuous time that saw the departure of our town manager and a difficult financial climate. I am exceptionally proud that this year, my last on Selectboard, we presented the voters with a budget that was an increase of just 0.8% over the prior year and fully funded needed services.
I will apply the lessons I learned on the Selectboard to my work in Montpelier. I will work to make Vermont affordable, lessen the property tax burden, strengthen our schools, and protect our essential civil liberties. Many of my friends growing up have left Vermont because they canโt afford to live in the Upper Valley or canโt find housing. Vermont is stronger and more vibrant when young Vermonters stay here.
I worked as a legislative attorney for six years drafting legislation and staffing committees in the House and Senate. I understand the legislative process and the skills required to be an effective legislator.
Public service has long been part of my life. My parents worked in Vermont government for three decades and also served in the legislature. I learned the value of public service early on and I hope you give me the opportunity to continue to serve you.
