Rolling solutions in Montpelier
I’m a nonverbal, disabled Vermonter who uses an AAC device to communicate and a power wheelchair to move. I’ve spent my life navigating systems that were never built with me in mind. I’ve learned that the barriers I face aren’t isolated. They connect to a much bigger problem which is a system that is stretched, outdated, and does not represent the people it is supposed to serve. I’m running because I have a perspective that comes from personal experience. Since I have a unique voice, I believe I can help rebuild systems across the board.
In my opinion, good leadership starts with supporting sustainable initiatives for housing the unhoused. Strong leadership continues with developing quality healthcare programs with reasonable insurance provisions. Solid leadership talks about rising challenges to the workforce.
When people see me, they first notice the chair and the computer. They see my limitations. People might presume that the needs of our disabled population are my only driving issue. Accessibility is a top concern for me, it directs me to respond to the needs of others. We need leadership that listens, adapts, and isn’t afraid to challenge the systems that are in place when they are not working for everyone. I’m running for state legislature to represent the towns of Randolph, Brookfield, Braintree, Granville and Roxbury (Orange-Addison-Washington) to be a catalyst and a contributor for the change we need to experience.
