William Warnken, Jr.

Newbury, NH – William P. Warnken, Jr. ( Coach Bill) died unexpectedly at his home on March 14th, 2026 at the age of 77.

Bill was born on April 13th, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of William P. Senior, and Julia Elizabeth ( Van Allen ).

Following a move to Long Island, Bill graduated from Chaminade High School in Mineola, NY. He then went on to graduate from Fairfield University and Penn State.

Bill was a generous, dedicated man who was passionate about sports, especially Basketball, a sport he coached for 50 years. He coached at Norwich University in Vermont, as well as Keene, Hillsboro, and Newport High Schools. His latest coaching experience was as an Assistant Coach at Mount Royal Academy in Sunapee. Bill also spent time as a volunteer for almost 8 years at the Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum.

Bill was a kind and generous man, often described as having a huge heart. People referred to him as “Coach Bill”. A title well deserved. Bill was a great man who will be greatly missed by many.

Bill was predeceased by his parents.

Surviving Bill are his sister, Marie and her husband,from NY and his partner, Doreen Rogers from Sunapee.

Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London on Sunday, March 22, 2026 from 4:00-7:00 P.M.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 23, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Fatima Church 724 Main Street New London, NH.

All are invited to a reception immediately following the Mass in the lower part of the Church.
