GRAFTON — Voters rejected changing the police chief from an elected role to an appointed role for the second year in a row during Australian ballot voting Tuesday.
The vote was 184 to 122. Jeffrey Cogswell defeated Synthia Ravell, 178 to 100, for a one-year term as the town’s police chief. Incumbent Steve Darrow was re-elected to a three-year term on the Selectboard and Laurie Sullivan was elected town moderator.
Voters approved the town’s $1.6 million operating budget, 208 to 76. Of the town’s 932 registered voters, more than 33% cast ballots.
