NEWPORT โ To prepare for the next day’s voting, the Newport Buildings and Grounds crew helps to install carpet sections on the gym floor and voting booths at the LaValley Family Community Center on Monday in Newport.
November elections were held in the building last year, but this will be the first time the Town Meeting polls are in the gym.
The $9 million community center, which officially opened last March just after Town Meeting Day, has two multipurpose rooms, a game room area, kitchen, weight room and team rooms for changing during basketball games.
Voting will occur across more than 20 towns and school districts throughout the New Hampshire side of the Upper Valley on Tuesday. Several more communities will hold meetings on Saturday.
Open enrollment policies for school districts, tax caps and whether to allow keno and other games of chance to be played are some of the main issues before voters this month. Elected officers for municipal boards will also be decided.
Most Vermont communities held Town Meeting last week.
