WOODSTOCK — The owners of fine dining establishment The Prince and the Pauper have set a closing date for the restaurant.

After more than 50 years in business, the eatery will serve its final meal in the Elm Street property on Saturday, March 14, co-owner Liz Schwenk announced on social media last weekend.

“Our time in this space has meant so much to us; we are incredibly proud of what has been built within these walls — the celebrations, the quiet dinners, the friendships, and the extraordinary team who made each evening feel seamless,” she wrote.

Schwenk originally announced The Prince and the Pauper’s closure in January after Zoe Zilian purchased the brick building, which has been home to the restaurant since 1974.

Zilian, who owns Woodstock cocktail bar Au Comptoir and co-founded the ceramics company Farmhouse Pottery, bought the property from Don Bourdon, whose family had owned it since the 1940s.

While The Prince and the Pauper is closing, “we will be keeping our name, phone number, email, and website, so please stay connected as we take the time to thoughtfully consider what the future may hold,” Schwenk wrote.

Aside from a private event slated for Friday, March 13, the restaurant will operate with its usual hours of 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, until the closing.
