Articles of note: Voters will be asked to approve an $11.4 million bond to renovate the Cornish Elementary School. Another article on the school warrant asks voters to approve a long-term tuition agreement with the Plainfield School District that requires Cornish students to attend Plainfield Middle School beginning in the 2026 to 2027 school year. A third asks if voters will designate Cornish Elementary School as an open enrollment school and to bar residents within the district from attending other open enrollment schools.
Contested races: Two people are running for one three-year term on the Selectboard: Jason Bourne and Lyle Parry. There are no contested School Board races.
Budgets and spending articles: The proposed municipal general operating budget is $711,500, up from $695,000 approved last year. The proposed highway budget is $845,000 with $110,000 anticipated to come from a state highway block grant. Last year, voters approved a $817,000 highway budget. The proposed school budget is $5.7 million, up from the $5.4 million budget voters approved last year.
When, where and how to vote: The School District meeting will be held on Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m. at the Cornish School Gymnasium, 274 Town House Road. Voting to elect school district officers will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the same date and the same location. Voting on town officers will by ballot on Tuesday, March 10 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Cornish Town Hall, 294 Town House Road. The Town Meeting business session will be on Saturday, March 14 at 10 a.m. at the Cornish Elementary School gymnasium.
