LYME โ€” First responders extricated 59 people from a Dartmouth Skiway chairlift that malfunctioned on Thursday afternoon.

The Lyme Fire Department and Emergency Services responded to the scene, along with the Hanover and Thetford fire departments, the Lyme and Orford police departments and Dartmouth Ski Patrol, Lyme Fire Department Chief Aaron Rich said in a statement posted to social media.

It took 90 minutes to extricate occupants from the chairlift, Rich wrote.ย

Once emergency responders removed occupants from the chairlift, EMS checked them for cold weather injuries. Emergency responders then brought occupants to the Skiwayโ€™s main lodge to warm up and reunite with their families.

No injuries were reported to responders, but emergency responders transported one person who needed additional warming support to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Rich wrote in an email correspondence.

Located on Grafton Turnpike Road, the Dartmouth Skiway, which is owned and operated by Dartmouth College, has two chairlifts and 104 acres of skiable terrain, according to the Skiwayโ€™s website.

Representatives from the Skiway could not immediately be reached for comment on Friday.
