Sen. Ruth Ward disrespects Claremont
Disrespect! That’s not what a community expects from their elected officials. But, that’s what the entire Claremont community got from our state senator, Ruth Ward.
Ward recently sent a letter to the New Hampshire Waste Management Council supporting Massachusetts-based Acuity Management, Inc.’s years-long attempt to bring a hazardous construction and demolition recycling facility to Claremont.
This after Claremont residents and our public officials repeatedly said “No!”. Our zoning board of adjustment twice (!) denied Acuity’s request. And, very dramatically, over 400 concerned citizens gathered last March to attend a DES hearing on Acuity’s waste permit. Community members spoke out loudly and clearly against the private company’s dangerous proposal.
In her letter to the Waste Management Council, Ward admits she recently met with Acuity management at the proposed site. During her visit, she claims she didn’t see “any cars at all” passing the site. She doesn’t seem to realize that residents are not concerned about current car traffic, but about the 50-70 huge trucks that will daily transport construction and demolition debris through the neighborhood if Acuity’s request is granted – much more and much heavier traffic than currently.
Ward may think it was a good idea to meet with Acuity management. But, as far as I know, she has not spoken to residents and toured their neighborhoods, nor spoken to city officials, who have consistently rejected Acuity.
Who is Ruth Ward really representing — people in her district, or an out-of-state company that wants to use our city as a toxic dumping ground?
