LEBANON โย The emergency winter shelter on Mechanic Street will open for the season on Saturday, according to an announcement from the city.
The low barrier shelter at 160 Mechanic St., which is entering its third season, will be open 7 days a week from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m.
The winter shelter has 14 beds that are first-come first-serve. Anyone over 18 is welcome. Guests can bring emotional support animals but may not bring weapons, firearms, or substances at the shelter or on the property.
During the week, cot sign-up will be at the TLC Resource Center at 24 Hanover St. until 5 p.m. TLC is about a mile from the shelter.
On the weekend, guests can sign up for a cot at the shelter beginning at 5 p.m.
If the shelter is full for the night, staff can assist in calling hotels or 211 to connect with other options.
Other resources on site include a hot dinner and to-go breakfast, hygiene supplies, hot showers, Wi-Fi, secure storage and service coordinators. There also is an Advance Transit bus stop at the location.
The property abuts the Mascoma River Greenway, a 2.3-mile multipurpose path that runs parallel to Route 4 and provides safe pedestrian access to stores and other businesses along the corridor.
The winter shelter is owned by the city and operated by the Upper Valley Haven.
