WHITE RIVER JUNCTION โ The Village at White River Junction, an assisted living and memory care facility on Currier Street, has changed ownership, according to a news release from the facility’s new owners.
Benchmark Senior Living, a senior living provider with a home office in Waltham, Mass., and National Development, a real estate investment and management firm based in Newton, Mass., acquired the Village from Columbia Pacific Advisors, a Seattle-based investment firm, in a joint venture earlier this month.
โThe Village at White River Junction is a very special community and we feel honored to work together with its experienced associates to usher in this new chapter,โ Tom Grape, founder, chairman and CEO of Benchmark, stated in the companyโs news release.
The acquisition was funded by M&T Bank, a regional bank with branches across the Mid-Atlantic, the release stated. Erin Domian, Benchmarkโs senior vice president of operations, declined to disclose the sale price.
Columbia Pacific Advisors acquired the Village from its founders, Byron Hathorn and Brooke Ciardelli, in 2021, two years after the five-story, 87,000-square-foot facility opened next to Northern Stage in White River Junctionโs downtown.
Prior to the acquisition, the Seattle-based investment firm provided a $29 million refinancing loan to the project as the Village struggled with cash-flow problems and filling the 80-unit facility during its early days of operation.ย
Columbia Pacific Advisors could not be reached for comment by deadline on Tuesday.
The facility currently has several vacant apartments, which Domian expects โwill be spoken for by the end of the year.โ
It costs between $12,000 and $15,000 a month to stay at the Village, which accepts private pay and long-term care insurance.
Benchmark does not currently have plans to change the monthly cost or make changes to the Village’s site or services, Domian said.
Services at the Village include around-the-clock care, prepared meals, housekeeping, laundry services and scheduled transportation.
Residents have access to a private dining room, a hair salon and spa, a movie room and a fitness center.
Benchmark currently operates 70 independent living, assisted living, memory care and retirement communities throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic region, including six facilities in New Hampshire such as The Birches at Concord, an assisted living facility dedicated to residents with memory loss, and one facility in Shelburne, Vt.
National Development, meanwhile, has developed over 33 senior housing communities in the past 30 years. The Village is the firmโs first senior living community in Vermont.
The Village marks the fourth assisted living community that Benchmark and National Development have acquired in 2025, in addition to one other facility under construction and several in the planning and permitting stage.
