It is that time of the year again, as recently graduated high school seniors from New Hampshire and Vermont will be battling it out on the pitch this weekend for a good cause during Saturday’s Lions Twin State Soccer Cup at Hanover High School.
This weekend’s event will feature another girls/boys doubleheader, with the proceeds from it being split between the two states and given to the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation of New Hampshire and the Green Mountain Lions Camp for the deaf and hard-of-hearing children.
Among the athletes representing the Upper Valley on the New Hampshire squads are Nehemiah Billings (Lebanon) for the boys. Addison Derosier (Stevens) and Maezie Angles (Lebanon) will grace the pitch for the girls team, while Stevens High coach Tim St. Pierre will serve as head coach.
As for the Green Mountain State, while there are no players from area schools on the boys roster, there is plenty of Upper Valley representation on the girls’ squad.
Natalee Spear (Oxbow), Kenzie Wescott (Windsor), Gabby Crane (Windsor) and Harper Traendly (Hartford) will suit up for the Vermont girls. Additionally, Windsor soccer coaches Wendy Moody and Jen Rupp will serve as the team’s co-head coaches.
Saturday’s festivities kick off with the boys game at 1 p.m., followed by the girls contest at 4 p.m. The price of admission is $5 and gives entry to both games.
At last year’s Lions Cup, which marked 50 years since the first boys game, New Hampshire swept Vermont, 3-1, in the girls contest and 2-1 in the boys matchup.
New Hampshire holds an all-time advantage over Vermont in both series, leading 21-19-10 in the boys game and 20-18-4 in the girls.
