FAIRLEE — A 32-year-old Woodsville woman was injured in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 91 Wednesday morning.

Murdo Limlaw, 74, of Newbury, Vt., was driving his Western Star tractor trailer in a southbound lane in Fairlee around 9 a.m. when he reduced his speed to 45 miles per hour, according to a news release from the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles.

“Due to the glare of the sun, wet roads, and a dirty windshield, Limlaw slowed down as he tried to clear his windshield,” according to the release.

As Limlaw slowed, Meghann Brough, 46, of Fairlee, who was traveling behind him, “swerved into the left lane” to avoid driving into the back of the trailer. Even so, her passenger-side mirror hit the trailer.

Brianna Hicks, 32, of Woodsville, who was driving behind Brough, was unable to stop. She hit the back of Limlaw’s trailer and totaled her vehicle, according to the release. She was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon with non life-threatening injuries.

One lane of I-91 south was closed for an hour while Department of Motor Vehicles officials investigated the crash “and found no pre-existing violations that would have contributed to the cause of the crash,” the release said.

Limlaw will not be charged, Vermont Agency of Transportation spokesperson said Wednesday.

Vermont State Police, the Fairlee Volunteer Fire Department, the Fairlee and Orford police departments, Upper Valley Ambulance and Precision Towing also responded to the scene.
