We’ve had some readers ask us how they can print puzzles from the e-paper so they can work on them outside of the app. Here’s how to do that from your desktop, phone or app.

Print Puzzles: From your desktop

If you have a desktop or laptop computer, you should see an icon at the bottom right of the e-edition screen that looks like a printer, and when you click your mouse on it, it gives you a choice to print or clip the image. 

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Navigate to the page you want to print from, either by flipping through the pages using the arrows to the right (or left if you want to move backwards):

or by using the navigation shortcut panel at the bottom:

2) Set the size of the screen so you can see the entire puzzle on the screen (the clipping tool won’t work if you can’t see the entire section you’ll want to print):

3) Use the clipping tool:  Click on the printer icon at the bottom, which brings up the option of printing the entire page or selecting a section.  Click on the “Clip” icon (also shown by the scissors icon) to select the puzzle or other area you want to print. This will show you a “+” sign in the image that you can use to choose the puzzle you want to print. If you choose to clip, you can use your mouse or trackpad to select the section of the page you want to print.

Click on the upper left corner of the puzzle with your mouse, and click again when you’ve defined the area by clicking on the lower right corner of the puzzle:

4) After you finish clipping, the computer will automatically bring up the print box:  click on “print” to send the selected image to your printer:

TIP:  If you’ve blocked pop-ups, you may have trouble printing.  Allow pop-ups on our website if you want to be able to print:

At that point, your computer should give you a regular prompt to print the image. 

Print Puzzles: From your tablet or phone

1) Navigate to the page you want to print from:

2) Center the puzzle in the screen and take a screen shot. Adjust the screen shot as you like to select only the part you wish to print:

3) Print the screen shot by selecting the send icon and choosing the print option:

This method may vary slightly from device to device.

Navigating the edition by Section and Page

In addition to navigating the paper using the arrows to the right and left, or through the navigator at the bottom, you can navigate by section and page using the Table of Contents function:

2) Navigating using the Navigator brings up small thumbnails you can scroll through to get to the page you want quickly:

Clicking on the navigator icon brings up the thumbnails:

3) Navigating using the Table of Contents:  You can click on the Table of Contents icon in the lower left corner of the e-paper reader and navigate to the page you want by Section and Page number:

This brings up an index in the left hand column listing pages by section and page.  Click on the index to bring you to the page you are looking for:
