Shapleigh, ME – Corbett E. "Corbie" Sponcel, 82 of Shapleigh, Maine, passed away October 4, 2025 surrounded by family. Born in Indiana, Corbett grew up in Ohio and graduated from Monroe High School. He built a long and dedicated career in communications, working in Ohio, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
Corbett is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Shumaker Sponcel; his son, Scott, and daughter-in-law, Mary, of Maine; his sister, Gayle, of Lebanon, Ohio; granddaughters Kaitlyn, Karlen, Kolbi, and Rebecca; grandson Jacob; and four great-grandchildren, Harper, Logan, Huck, and Wesley. He was predeceased by his grandson Korbin in 1993.
An avid enthusiast of shooting sporting clays, Corbett traveled to many meets while living in Green Valley, Arizona. He treasured his 17 years of retirement there before he and Jean moved to Maine when their son, Scott, retired from his communications career in Alaska.
A celebration of Corbett's life will be held at a later date.
