HANOVER โ One of two swastikas reported at Dartmouth College in recent weeks was a false alarm, police confirmed Monday. An investigation into the other is ongoing.

On Sept. 27, a student reported a swastika drawn outside of a Jewish student’s dorm room in New Hampshire Hall. Both Hanover Police and the Dartmouth Office of Safety and Security investigated the incident.

“After extensive follow up,” Hanover Police determined that the image drawn on a laminated name tag attached to the dorm room door was “likely not” a swastika, according to a Monday news release.
This was confirmed when a person came forward and said they had written “Hi” on the poster with a heart over the letter i.
Earlier in the month, a swastika was reported outside of a Jewish student’s door in a nearby dorm building, Topliff Hall.
This image, drawn in the carpet with a clear liquid, was determined to be a swastika and an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Police are investigating the image as criminal threatening. Anyone with information should contact Hanover Police at 603-643-2222 or anonymously at 603-643-7278.
Dartmouth President Sian Leah Beilock was quick to condemn both incidents in messages to the campus community and offer lines of support to impacted students and community members. Beilock has not released a statement since the second image was found to be a false alarm.
