Doris Davis Morin
Vancouver, WA – Vancouver, WA Doris David Morin, 89, passed Friday,
September 5, 2025.
Born in Lyme, NH in the midst of the great flood of 1936, Doris was
the fifth child of Gerald and Hattie Davis. The Davis clan moved to a
farm in Orfordville, NH in her early years. Doris attended school in
Orfordville and graduated from High School at Orford High School. She
then went on to graduate from Keene State College where she earned a
Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. It was at Keene State where Doris
met her husband Romeo during their freshman year. After graduating and
marriage, the Morins moved to Newport, NH where they taught school in
Sunapee, NH. Doris taught High School-Home Economics and Chemistry.
While Romeo was pursuing a graduate degree at the University of
Wisconsin, Doris worked as an administrative assistant in the
Department of Education. After completion of those studies, the Morins
moved their small family to Chico, CA. Upon arrival in Chico, Doris
became a hardworking member of AAUW (American Association of
University Women). It was during this time her love of textiles
exploded into a love for weaving and of the fiber arts. Many hours
were spent in Josie Otwell’s weaving studio at Chico State. This led
to many years long membership with the Lassen Weaving Guild, and a
foray into business ownership. Her dear friend Patty Curran-Railton
and Doris started a weaving shop called the Yarn Basket, which is
still in operation today. Doris continued her weaving and sewing,
after selling the business, eventually teaching coursework though
Butte College, the Guild, and the Yarn Basket.
After their youngest daughter, Maria, was settled in school, Doris
returned fully into the workforce. She worked for many years at the
Associated Student’s Bookstore at CSUC in the textbook department.
Doris spent many years traveling to different educational institutions
in the Used Book industry. Philanthropic efforts continued with Doris’
very active role in Omega Nu. Romeo was there with her at all of the
Barn Dances, Fashion Shows, and Conclaves.
The Morins led a very active life. They were members of different
gourmet and bridge groups. They often held parties at the home they
built at Butte Creek Country Club. Travel was also very important to
Doris and Romeo-they shared many trips with different friend groups
and family. Summers were spent in their extensive organic garden.
Romeo planting and tending, Doris harvesting and preserving. Many
friends and neighbors enjoyed the fruits and vegetables produced at 20
Fairview Circle. Doris was well known for her homemade birthday cakes
– a favorite of her daughters and her grandchildren. Handmade
Halloween costumes were also hugely popular with her family. The
Christmas and holiday spreads were sheer delight.
Doris is survived by daughters, JoAnn Powers and Maria Halstead
(husband, Christopher), and grandchildren, Stephen (husband,
Theodore), Camille, and Charlotte. Doris also leaves behind three
sisters, many nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was
predeceased by her beloved husband, Romeo, and her son, Jay.
Doris will be buried alongside of Romeo at the family gravesite in
Lebanon, NH. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 16,
2025, at Sacred Heart Cemetery at 2PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris’ honor to Beta
Chapter of Omega Nu Foundation, P.O. Box 1256, Chico, CA 95927.
