LEBANON โ€” In response to a severe drought, the city is asking residents connected to the Lebanon municipal water system to restrict their outdoor water use, according to a Friday news release.

“These measures are necessary to help protect the Cityโ€™s water supply and ensure essential needs are met during the ongoing drought,” the news release said.

The outdoor water guidelines include:

  • Residents should not water lawns and landscapes between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Lawn and landscape watering, and washing of vehicles, driveways, sidewalks and “other impervious areas” should only be done on odd-numbered days of the month for residents with odd-numbered addresses and on even-numbered days of the month for even-numbered addresses.

The city also recommends that residents conserve water indoors as much as possible.

The announcement came after a coalition of federal agencies classified all of Grafton County as experiencing severe drought as of Tuesday, according to a Thursday update to the federally managed U.S. Drought Monitor.

In addition to Grafton County, portions of Windsor County are also experiencing severe drought as of Tuesday.

The rest of the Upper Valley is experiencing moderate drought, one step lower on the drought scale that includes five levels from abnormally dry to exceptional drought. Severe drought is the third highest level.
