NEWBURY, Vt. โ After two weeks of searching, a town committee has chosen Shauna Prime to fill an interim seat on the Selectboard.
Prime, who has lived in Newbury since 2021 and has worked for the Vermont Agency of Transportation for over 30 years, will hold the post until Town Meeting in March.

Prime fills the seat previously occupied by state Rep. Joe Parsons, R-Newbury, who resigned from the board in early August.
A committee, made up of the two remaining Selectboard members, the town clerk and the chair of the budget advisory committee, chose Prime from a group of four candidates who wrote letters in response to a vacancy announcement the town posted, Selectboard Chairwoman Susan Culp said in a Wednesday phone interview.
The committee was looking for someone who is committed to the community, who is willing to listen to their constituents and who recognizes that they’re stepping in mid-term, Culp said in an email to the Valley News on Aug. 28.
Prime, who is currently the district transportation administrator for Southeastern Vermont, was chosen for her expertise in transportation infrastructure, Culp said. Prime’s background in budgeting and public finance also will benefit the Selectboard over the next six months, Culp said.
Prime’s first appearance as interim member will be the Selectboard’s next regular meeting on Sept. 10.
