LEBANON — The state has recognized the city for its efforts to combat New Hampshire’s housing challenges.

The New Hampshire Department of Business and Economic Affairs named Lebanon, and 17 other municipalities, as housing champions. As such, the city is eligible for two special housing grants.

“This designation recognizes Lebanon’s strong commitment to finding smart, sustainable solutions to the state’s housing challenges,” a news release from the city said.

The city has already received $159,000 from the Housing Infrastructure Municipal Grant to help install water, sewer, and fire safety systems for the city-sponsored Barrows Street Development Project, a small, affordable housing development for local employees on a parcel of city-owned land near Interstate 89.

The housing champion designation is valid for three years and gives Lebanon future opportunities to apply for additional state funding.

In an effort to further the city’s efforts, the Lebanon Housing Task Force is asking residents to complete a 10-minute anonymous survey to help to identify ways the city “can meet the housing needs of existing and potential residents,” the survey says.

“Input is needed from residents at every income level and with all types of housing experiences — from long-time homeowners to new renters, and from young professionals to retirees,” a news release from the city said.
