UNITY — The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office and Unity Fire Department are investigating a weekend fire in Unity that left one person dead.

Firefighters responded to a mobile home at 299 Quaker City Road at 6 p.m. on Sunday evening after receiving reports of an “outside fire,” according to news release from the state fire marshal.

When they made it to the scene, firefighters discovered “a mobile home fully consumed in flames.”

Firefighters also discovered a deceased person inside the home.

The state has not yet released the identity of the victim, the release said. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy “to verify their identity and confirm their cause and manner of death.”

The 25.42-acre parcel has a Charlestown mailing address and is owned by Michael Maco, according to Unity tax maps.

Members of the Charlestown, Goshen, Newport, Claremont, Acworth and Lempster fire departments also responded to the blaze. The Marlow Fire and EMS Department provided station coverage for the Unity Fire Department.

Those with information that might assist in the investigation are asked to call the fire marshal’s office at 603-223-4289 or fmo@dos.nh.gov.
