LYME — A historic covered bridge that crosses River Road in Lyme has reopened after being closed since October for repairs.
Edgell Bridge, which spans Clay Brook, reopened earlier this week ahead of schedule, according to an announcement from Lyme Town Administrator Dina Cutting.
During the March 2024 Town Meeting, voters approved putting $690,000 toward repairing the one-lane bridge, which has been damaged by oversized vehicles over the years. Money came from the town’s capital reserve funds, as well as private donations.
The bridge, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, was first constructed 1885.
