Articles of note: One article on the town warrant asks if voters support a one-year subdivision moratorium in the rural district while the town upgrades its master plan. Another town article asks whether the town will amend the rural zoning ordinance to require five acres for a single-family home, up from the current 3.5 acres. Another zoning amendment would regulate cell towers; another would disallow mobile home parks in rural residential areas; and another would alter the accessory dwelling unit ordinance. A school article would see if the district will tuition fourth grade students to area schools with which the district has tuition agreements. Another school article would offer preschool services at the Croydon Village School for which families would pay tuition; free or reduced rates would be available to families who qualify for free or reduced price school meals.
Contested races: There are two people vying for a three-year term on the School Board: Caroline Dupere and Aaron McKeon. There are also two people facing off for a one-year term on the School Board: Kevin Morris and Samantha Nelson.
Budgets and spending articles: The proposed school budget is $2.1 million, up from the $1.8 million voters approved last year. The proposed municipal budget is $780,500, up from last yearโs approved budget of $715,000. A separate town article asks for $50,000 for about 10 hours a week of police coverage. One school article, recommended by the School Board seeks, $353,000 for a renovation to the single-room schoolhouse. Another, not recommended by the board, seeks $1.2 million for two additional classrooms.
When, where and how to vote: Ballot voting will take place on Tuesday, March 11 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Croydon Town Hall. The in-person town meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m, Saturday, March 15 at the Croydon Volunteer Fire Department. The in-person school meeting is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. on March 15 at the Croydon Fire Hall.
