CLAREMONT — A 26-year-old Keene, N.H., man faces a raft of criminal charges after he crashed a reported stolen vehicle while being pursued by a state trooper through downtown Claremont on July 9.

The vehicle pursuit began when a New Hampshire State Trooper traveling west on Washington Street observed the vehicle ahead of him was failing to maintain its lane. When the trooper activated his cruiser’s emergency lights ordering the vehicle to stop, the driver refused to obey and the vehicle sped off, state police said in a news release on Friday.

As the driver fled, he lost control of the vehicle, drove off the road and crashed, He was subsequently arrested without further incident, police said.

The vehicle the Keene man was driving had been reported stolen in Harrisville, N.H., earlier in the day, police said.

The driver was taken to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries he received in the crash. He was released on bail and ordered to appear in Claremont District Court on July 22 to face charges of disobeying an officer, reckless conduct with deadly weapon, receiving stolen property, aggravated DUI, operating after suspension of license and reckless operation.
