A West Lebanon man is facing multiple charges, including aggravated driving while intoxicated and reckless driving with a deadly weapon, after allegedly causing a motor vehicle collision with a tractor trailer on Route 4 on Friday.

Steven Edson, 27, was driving eastbound early Friday morning on Dartmouth College Highway on Route 4, on a bend known as Bagley’s Corner, when his vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and collided with an oncoming tractor trailer.

Brian Weinberg, the driver of the tractor trailer, was not injured. Edson sustained “serious injuries” and was transported to Dartmouth Health for medical treatment, according to a news release by the Lebanon Police Department.

In addition to the charges of reckless driving and driving while intoxicated, Edson is being charged with driving after a suspended license and possession of controlled drugs. Each is a Class B felony, punishable by a maximum of 7 to 15 years in prison and a fine up to $4,000.

Edson was also charged with open container and possession of marijuana violations.

Edson is scheduled to be arraigned in Grafton County Superior Court on Dec. 8.

Though not speaking to Edson’s case, generally police officers may determine an individual is intoxicated based on a variety of factors, including a person’s manner of operating a vehicle, open containers or eyewitness reports, according to Lebanon Police Chief Phillip Roberts.

The Lebanon Police Department and Lebanon Fire Department responded to the collision scene at 7:12 a.m. Route 4 remained closed between Sunset Rock Road and Payne Road until around 3:20 p.m.
