SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — A shooting on Valley Street on Monday afternoon required that area buildings, including Springfield Hospital and the town’s schools and town library, be placed on lockdown while police searched for the suspect.
Todd Amell, 50, a resident of Valley Street in Springfield was shot in the leg at about 2:30 p.m., according to the Vermont State Police, which is investigating the incident along with the Springfield Police Department. A “shelter in place” order was issued for Springfield schools following the shooting on Monday, which delayed bus runs and the release of students for parent pick up at the district’s elementary schools, Union Street Elementary School and Elm Hill School on Hoover Street, according to the district’s Facebook page.
The order was lifted by 3:45 p.m.
