In doubles, Yang and Rockmore won, 8-3, and Pillsbury and Sam Ames won, 8-4, while Ian Holmes and Wilson were defeated, 8-3.

Bears coach Jarrod Shaheen had praise all around for his team.

“Ryder played a phenomenal match at (sixth singles) to hold off a persistent opponent that came down to a tiebreak,” Shaheen said. “Evan and Alex looked great in their matches, Kevin and Charlie played well, along with Kevin and Sam, but Zach was able to defeat his opponent without dropping a single game. We look forward to our trip down to Derryfield tomorrow (Friday) for another good test.”

Springfield 5, Windsor 4

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — The Yellowjackets grabbed a three-run lead in the top of the sixth but could not hold on.

Windsor’s Peyton Richardson had nine strikeouts and started the sixth off with a single, which was later followed by a RBI single from Sarah DeSchamp to give the Jacks the lead.

“Another tough loss,” said Windsor coach Kelsey Mason. “Although our bats were relatively quiet, we had some smart heads-up plays on the defensive side and a strong performance for our pitcher in the circle.”

Windsor (1-2) is at Bellows Falls on Tuesday.

Lyndon 19, Oxbow 7 (5)

LYNDON CENTER, Vt. — Oxbow kept it close in the early going and was up by a run in the second before Lyndon took a 6-4 lead, tacked on three more runs in the third and continued scoring in the last two innings.

“Our bats were hitting the ball but right where they were,” said Oxbow Coach Chuck Simmons. “We were holding our own then started making mental mistakes, and they capitalized on them.”

Oxbow (1-1) is at White River Valley Saturday.

Randolph 22, White River Valley 17

SOUTH ROYALTON — Tanner Drury scored four runs, Julia Morse three and Liyah Fisk-Turkvan four for the Wildcats in the loss. Morse also doubled and Fisk-Turkvan tripled.

St. Johnsbury 24, Hartford 2 (5)

Also for Hartford, Logan Evans, Marina Grassi and Izabella Murphy each had a single and Morgan Curtis, a freshman, made her pitching debut in the fourth. Murphy and Grassi also got singles.

“We were able to put the ball in play hard quite a bit but couldn’t string together enough hits or hit the gaps to get the runs,” said Hartford coach Danielle Tenney. “St. Jay was able to hit the ball in the places we weren’t.”

Baseball Windsor 15, Leland & Gray 5

TOWNSHEND, Vt. — Chris Palmer and Maison Fortin each had three hits and four RBIs, and the Yellowjackets jumped to 1-1.

St. Johnsbury 12, Hartford 4

ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. — Fielding miscues bit the Hurricanes, who surrendered six unearned runs in the loss.

Hartford took a 2-0 first-inning lead on hits by sophomores Nate Clark and Zach Johnson and a sacrifice fly from sophomore Matt Hayes.

St. Johnsbury scored four runs in the bottom first, but Hartford got one back in the second on squeeze play when senior Drew Martin laid down a perfect bunt for a hit and RBI.

St. Johnsbury scored eight times in the next two innings to put the game away

“We had four errors in two innings that led to the big innings for St. Johnsbury,” said Hartford coach Bill Vielleux

Clark had two hits and scored twice, and junior Joey Beggs scored a run.

Zach Johnson and Matt Hayes were on the mound for five innings, giving up just eight hits combined.

“Things looked promising early for us. We got on base, moved runners and scored a couple of runs. I thought we pitched very well. Unfortunately, our fielding let us down,” said Vielleux. “I am proud of these guys. We got down big, but there was no quit in them at all, and that’s something we can build on. We are a young team with only two returning starters, but I believe we have a winning team here, and we will be OK.”

Rivendell 11, West Rutland 0

WEST RUTLAND, Vt. — Freshman pitcher Rowan Halsey-Leckerling tossed a no-hitter, striking out 10, and the Raptors plated runs in all five innings on nine hits.

Halsey-Leckerling was also 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored. Josh Gould had three RBIs, and Harry Molesworth had two hits and scored four runs.

Atheer Rashid, an exchange student from Palestine, had a hit in his first varsity at bat.

“Rowan overcame a slippery mound and the early season adjustments that pitchers need to make to really battle through the game,” said Rivendell coach Eric Reichert. “He had a couple of pressure situations where he settled in and pounded the strike zone.”

Rivendell (1-1) is home to Mount St. Joseph’s on Tuesday.

Blue Mountain 11, Thetford 3

WELLS RIVER, Vt. — Ethan Marshia had a double and three walks, scoring all three Panther runs, and Nolan Pepe was 2-for-3.

Thetford (1-1) is home to White River Valley on Tuesday.

Girls Lacrosse Windham 9, Hanover 8

WINDHAM, N.H. — The Bears cut a 9-4 deficit to 9-8 and had possession with time running out.

“We had the ball on our stick but just could not get a good shot off,” said Hanover coach Sarah Martin.

Kali McDonnell and Lia Naughton had two goals each, with four other players scoring a goal each. Martin said freshman goalie Charlotte Robinson had an outstanding game in net, stopping 14 shots.

“She had a really nice game,” Martin said, noting that Windham beat Hanover last year by about 10 goals. “Our kids played tough, coming back from being down. I am really proud of them.”

Hanover (1-1) is home against Goffstown on Monday.
