CANAAN — Stephen Freese won the contested race for the three-year term on the Selectboard. He defeated Anthony Bishop in a 349-222 vote. Laura McDermott and Kathleen Peters won the two three-year terms on the library board of trustees, defeating Christina Mackwood.

Voters rejected three of the articles that were on the ballot by petition. In a 307-234 vote, the town rejected an article that would have exempted wind and solar systems installed for on-site use from property taxes. Voters also rejected an article that would have raised and appropriated $2,846 to support the Public Health Council of the Upper Valley. They also rejected an article to raise and appropriate $7,800 for the Tri-Community Action Program’s programs in Canaan, which include energy assistance and weatherization.
