SUNAPEE — Voters have again defeated a bond vote for renovations and additions to the Central Elementary School.

The $11.6 million appropriation failed to get the required 60% majority (674-554, or 55%).

All other school articles, including the $13.17 million budget and a three-year teachers contract passed easily. Andrew Nichols (559) and Kerri McCaul Claus (518) were elected to three-year terms on the school board over John Augustine (478), Laura Piazza (422) and Adrianne Scott (153).

On the town ballot, incumbents Fred Gallup (774) and Carol Wallace (775) were re-elected to three-year terms on the Selectboard over Debbia Samalis (394).

The town budget of $8.9 million and all other town articles including zoning and money for capital reserve funds passed. However, voters defeated a petition article (691-506) for $250,000 to fund the design, engineering and construction of phase one of the Veterans Field Project and a second petition article to appropriate $30,000 to make the recreation director’s job full-time for nine months.

Turnout was 45%, or 1,243 out of 2,788 registered voters.
