Article of note: Voters are being asked to approve a $15.4 million appropriation for renovations and additions to the 30-year old Sugar River Valley Technical Center.
The article states $1.96 million will be borrowed and repaid by taxpayers.
Contested races: Darrell Jones, William Wilkinson, Timothy Beard and Steven Morris are the candidates for two three-year seats on the School Board.
Budgets and spending articles: Also on the five-article warrant are a $19.77 million budget and a proposed three-year contract for teachers.
The combined tax impact of the three appropriations is $1.38 per $1,000 of assessed valuation which translates into a $200 increase in school taxes on a property assessed at $150,000.
When, where and how to vote: Voting by Australian ballot on the Newport School District warrant will be on Tuesday, March 8, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Newport Middle High School gymnasium, 245 Main St.
