LEBANON — The Lebanon High girls basketball team’s Thursday contest against visiting Bishop Brady was moved up because of an approaching snowstorm. With that done, the Raiders plowed over the Green Giants, 56-38, at Lang Metcalf Gym and improved to 12-5 in NHIAA Division II play.

Guard Catherine Cole scored 17 points and center Ella Longacre had 14 points and blocked several shots by Bishop Brady (3-12). Point guard Molly Smith had 11 points, and forward Maddy Jewell had eight.

“Bishop Brady has some good shooters and they also scored on us by driving on the baseline,” said Lebanon coach Chris Boucher, whose team led, 39-34, late in the third quarter.

“If Ella can protect the paint like that, no one’s going to want to come to the basket on us.”

Boucher credited Cole for driving and dishing lateral passes to Jewell, who came off the bench to replace starting forward Sarah Belk. Guard Molly Smith played the entire game before coming out in the final two minutes.

“We go as she goes,” Boucher said of Smith. “Things don’t operate right unless she’s in there. It’s not one large thing, but at key moments, she dictates where the game’s going to go.”

In addition to bumping the start of Thursday’s game, the storm also postponed the Raiders’ Friday season finale at ConVal to Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.

Lebanon entered Friday night ranked seventh in D-II and likely to host a first-round tournament game next week.

Football Shrine rosters revealed

LEBANON — Both the New Hampshire and Vermont teams released their rosters on Friday for the 69th Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl Game, which will feature the top graduated senior football players from both states. The game is scheduled for Aug. 6 at Castleton University’s Dave Wolk Stadium.

The Granite Staters will have three Lebanon players on their squad — running back/linebacker CJ Childs, lineman Cameron Davio and quarterback/safety Jackson Stone. Stone announced his commitment to play defensive back at the University of New Hampshire earlier this week.

The full Raider coaching staff will lead the New Hampshire team, including head coach Chris Childs (CJ’s father). Lebanon enjoyed an undefeated regular season in 2021 and lost in the NHIAA Division II semifinals to Milford.

Hanover will also be represented, with lineman Connor Chambers and running back/linebacker Seamus Murphy joining the roster. Running back/defensive back Roman Farnsworth of Mascoma and running back/defensive lineman Devyn Heino of Newport were named to the team as well.

For Vermont, linemen Harrison Gaudet and Devon Sinclair will represent Hartford. Windsor, which won the VPA Division III title, will send lineman Dalton Clifford, fullback/linebacker Ben Gilbert and wide receiver/linebacker Austin Gauld. Woodstock running back/defensive back Corey White also made the team, and Wasps head coach Ramsey Worrell will coach the Green Mountain State’s DBs.

New Hampshire leads the all-time series, 49-16, with two ties.
