ENFIELD — Shaker Bridge Theatre has canceled its production of Lungs, a two-person show that was slated to open Feb. 3.
Director and Shaker Bridge founder Bill Coons is fighting off an infection in both of his ears that has caused “total hearing loss,” he said in an email Thursday. The opening of the show had been pushed back from Jan. 27, but Coons has not recovered sufficiently to direct.
“I find it impossible to direct something if I can’t hear the actors,” Coons wrote in his message to the Valley News. He feels “pretty sure” his hearing will return in full, but it hasn’t yet.
While Coons hopes to bring the production of Lungs to the stage, he’s not sure when or whether that will happen. In the meantime, Shaker Bridge is offering ticket holders either tickets to a subsequent show or a refund.
