HANOVER — In its second attempt at the season opener, the Hanover High girls hockey team wasted no time in creating some fireworks.
Sophomore forward Maeve Lee delivered a second-period hat trick as Hanover (1-0) cruised to a 7-2 win on home ice over Oyster River on Wednesday at Campion Rink. The team’s scheduled opener last Saturday at Bishop Brady was postponed.
Rory Seelig, Lily Seelig, Julia Lawe and Rachel Rockwood also scored a goal for Hanover. For Lawe and Rockmore, both freshman left wings, it was the first goal of their careers.
Freshmen Nora Bradley and Hannah Gardner had assists as Hanover led 2-0 after the first period and 6-1 after the second.
“It was a solid start for the girls who were happy to be competing again,” coach John Dodds said.
Hanover returns to action at home on Saturday against Souhegan.
WEARE — After letting a 1-0 lead slip away, the Raiders scored twice in the third period to pull back ahead and edge the Generals.
Junior forward Will McGee opened the scoring just over two minutes into the game, then scored the game-winner in the third.
Senior forward Griffin Auch put home the equalizer early in the third period.
Junior defensemen Ryan West and Andrew Dannehy and junior forward Cesar Salcedo each had an assist. Senior goaltender Toby Cromwell made 19 saves.
Lebanon (1-0) opens the home portion of its schedule on Saturday against Berlin.
PENACOOK, N.H. — Senior forward Jackson Stone’s layup as time expired lifted the Raiders (2-1) to their second straight win.
Stone received an inbounds pass at mid-court with five seconds left and drove straight to the basket, laying the ball in just before the buzzer sounded.
Stone led Lebanon with 13 points, eight of which came in the fourth quarter. Senior forward Nyeoti Punni added 11 points for the Raiders and sophomore guard Nick Brill chipped in with eight.
The Raiders were without senior guard Braeden Falzarano, who was coming off a 20-point performance in an overtime win over Laconia on Monday in which he played all 36 minutes.
Lebanon is back home on Friday against Kennett.
WOODSTOCK — The visiting Raptors (1-0) used an 18-7 edge in the second quarter to pull away from the Wasps (0-2) for a season-opening win.
Senior guard Kyle Carter, on a quest for 1,000 career points, had 29 on Wednesday for Rivendell, including five 3-pointers. Sophomore guard Zach Marstolf-Tan was the only Woodstock player in double figures, with 13 points.
This was Woodstock’s first time taking the court as well, as they forfeited their scheduled opener Saturday at Burr & Burton.
The Raptors were 10-for-11 from the free throw line while the Wasps were just 1-for-6.
Rivendell hosts Springfield on Friday, while Woodstock next heads to Otter Valley on Monday.
BRADFORD, Vt. — The Panthers led 14-2 after a quarter and never looked back in a season-opening win over the Olympians.
Junior guard Jacob Gilman led a balanced offensive attack for Thetford (1-0) with 17 points. Freshman forward Boone Fahey added 14 and sophomore forward Mitchell Parkman chipped in with 12.
For Oxbow, senior forward Andrew Emerson led with nine points. The Olympians fell to 0-3 after losing both games in the Stretch Gillam Kickoff Classic at Hartford last weekend.
Both teams are home on Friday evening, with Thetford hosting Blue Mountain and Oxbow taking on Lyndon.
LEBANON — The Raiders (1-2) benefitted from the return of senior center Ella Longacre as they got in the win column for the first time this season.
Longacre missed Lebanon’s first two games, losses to Pembroke and Laconia, with a lower-body injury, but coach Chris Boucher said her return sparked the team.
Boucher has been absent this week due to an illness but expects to return for Monday’s home game against Sanborn. Interim coach KJ Matte was behind Lebanon’s bench on Wednesday.
The Raiders next travel to Kennett on Friday.
NEWPORT — The shorthanded Tigers dropped a pair of home matches on Wednesday evening, 30-24 to John Stark and 48-4 to Plymouth.
Luke Bartlett won his bout by pin at 220 pounds against the Generals, while Anson Ritondo gave Newport its only points against the Bobcats with a 13-5 major decision win at 132 pounds.
The Tigers head to the Nor’Easter Invitational at Hollis-Brookline on Saturday.
