HANOVER — After surrendering an early goal, Columbia used a three-goal burst to beat Dartmouth, 3-2, in an Ivy League women’s soccer contest at Burnham Field on Saturday afternoon.
Dartmouth found the net three minutes in on a goal by Hannah Curtin, her sixth of the season, assisted by Allie Winstanley and Dasa Hase. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Big Green until the 42-minute mark when Columbia tied it on an unassisted Kendall McBride strike.
The Lions opened a 3-1 lead with goals at the 63rd and 66th minutes, with Ally Clark and Nata Ramirez doing the honors. Winstanley got Dartmouth back within a goal in the 70th minute with an Erin Kawakami assist, but the Big Green couldn’t locate an equalizer.
Dartmouth had 18 shot attempts to Columbia’s six. Emily Hardy made one stop in the Big Green net. Now 5-6-1 overall and 1-4-0 in the Ivies, Dartmouth returns to action at Harvard on Saturday.
HANOVER — Taking advantage of the ejection of a Columbia player, Dartmouth’s Max Pickering scored with 46 seconds left in regulation to help the Big Green (2-9-1, 0-3-1) rescue a point from the Lions (1-7-4, 0-2-2).
Adrien Wheaton-Schopp grabbed the lead for Columbia against the run of play in the 38th minute. The tide turned, however, when the Lions’ Maz Gonzalez drew two yellow cards in a 20-second span of the 78th minute, giving Dartmouth a one-man advantage. Pickering finally capitalized in the closing seconds, smashing home Garrett Scott’s pass to force overtime.
Dartmouth pummeled Columbia goalkeeper Michael Collodi with 25 shots, forcing 10 saves from the Lions’ netminder. Freshman Costi Christodoulou needed just one stop for the Big Green, which heads to Harvard on Saturday.
HANOVER — The Lions (7-6-0, 1-4-0) used a two-goal second period to overturn the Big Green (4-9-0, 0-5-0) at Chase Field.
The Big Green scored first on freshman Emilia Callahan’s second goal of the season, knocking home a rebound in the first quarter from the initial shot by junior Meg Barnes.
Columbia tied it up in the second quarter and got the game winner on a penalty stroke with just a minute left in the first half. Junior Hatley Post had eight saves for Dartmouth.
Dartmouth hosts Maine on Sunday in the final home game of the year.
HANOVER — The Big Green handed Harvard its first loss of the season, with six Dartmouth players combining to score seven tries.
Ava Procter had a pair for 10 points, and Abbey Savin hit five conversions, also for 10 points. Dartmouth (6-0) scored at the 18-minute mark of the first half when Lilly Durbin led the way for tries by Lauren Ferridge, Asialeata Meni and Idia Ihensekhien in a 16-minute span. Dartmouth was up 26-0 before Harvard got on the board.
Dartmouth will close the regular season next weekend at Brown.
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Big Green dropped a tight Ivy contest to the Crimson by scores of 25-21, 16-25, 26-24, 14-25 and 16-14.
Leading the Big Green was Emma Moffet with 15 kills, six blocks and 18 points. Karen Murphy had 28 assists, and Taite Ryan a team-leading 15 digs. Dartmouth fought back to win the second and fourth sets and tie the match before Harvard closed it out in the extended fifth set with three straight points.
Dartmouth (10-7, 2-6) will host Penn and Princeton next weekend.
