“The lead Kearsarge pair challenged Lauren, and she hung in with them through the third mile,” said Hanover coach Eric Picconi. “Other runners shined as they notched their best times of the season. We will build on this race as we lean into October.”

BASS FISHING Royals third at states

WOLFEBORO, N.H. — After placing third in the NHIAA qualifying meet in late September, the Royals’ Cole and Tanner Moulton repeated that result in Saturday’s NHIAA state championship tournament on Lake Wentworth.

The Mascoma duo combined for finish second in lunker competition (for largest fish) in both the smallmouth and largemouth divisions, the latter checking in at 4 pounds, 2 ounces. The Royals’ day started slowly but, according to coach Eric Moulton, a late-day change in strategy enabled both anglers to get on two schools of fish and reach their eight-fish limit, including the four-pounder landed in 54 feet of water.

“As a coach, I was very proud of the boys to stay focused and keep grinding on a tough day,” Eric Moulton said. “Though it was a bit disappointing to finish just shy of a banner, the fact that they were able to rebound from a rough start felt like a win to me.”

Keene won the state crown, followed by Kearsarge.

GOLF Trio at girls states

SALEM, N.H. — The Lebanon and Stevens golf programs combined to sent three competitors to the NHIAA state girls golf championship at Campbell’s Scottish Highlands.
