HANOVER — Dartmouth College center Evan Hecimovich has been named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy, given to the top football scholar-athlete in the country.

Hecimovich, a fifth-year senior majoring in economics, joins six other Ivy Leaguers among the 176 players selected from around the country. The National Football Foundation will whittled that field down to 12 to 14 finalists next month, each of whom will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. The winner, to be announced on Dec. 7, will get a $25,000 postgrad scholarship.

Candidates are nominated by the schools and must have a 3.20 grade-average, have outstanding football ability and be strong leader. Hecimovich began his final Dartmouth term with a 3.25 GPA.

WEST HARTFORD, Con.. — The Big Green wrapped up a season-opening six-match road trip with a sixth straight defeat on Tuesday night. The loss was Dartmouth’s fourth decided by one goal and its fourth shutout of the season.

The visitors (0-6-0) stayed in the match throughout but were done in by a late Hartford goal. Addrian Knights-Browne did the damage for the Hawks (2-6-2), knocking home Patrick Gryczewski’s assist with 8:08 left on the second-half clock.

An even contest saw Hartford hold a narrow 11-10 edge in shot attempts and a 7-6 advantage in attempts on goal. Goalkeeper Alex Budnik kept the Big Green in the match, making five saves.

Dartmouth finally gets a taste of home — and Ivy League action — when Princeton visits Whitey Burnham Field on Saturday at 5 p.m.
