WASHINGTON — Former Dartmouth College goalkeeper Brian Wiese held little mercy for his alma mater on Saturday, guiding No. 1 Georgetown to a 3-0 men’s soccer victory over the Big Green at Shaw Field.
The Hoyas (7-0-0) took command early with two goals just 130 seconds apart. Dante Polvara got on the board at 9:17, and Zach Riviere followed suit at 11:27. Sean Zawadzki added an insurance marker in the 62nd minute for Georgetown. Daniel Wu had two assists for the Hoyas.
Wiese is a 1995 Dartmouth graduate and three-time all-Ivy League netminder for the Big Green. In his 16th season at Georgetown, he coached the Hoyas to the NCAA championship in 2019.
The Big Green (0-5-0) was outshot, 16-9, although it held a narrow 5-4 edge in shots on target. Alex Budnik made one save.
Dartmouth continues its long season-opening road trip at Hartford on Tuesday night.
BOSTON — Dartmouth players won all but one match at the Boston University Invitational.
The Big Green swept its three doubles matches and took the first five singles positions. Alejandro Quiles, Carlos Guerrero Alvarez, Alex Knox-Jones, Anders Gibbons and Hikaru Takeda all won twice.
Dartmouth will compete at the ITA All-America Championship in Tulsa, Okla., starting on Saturday.
BOSTON — The Big Green won three singles matches abainst Boston University foes.
Chidimma Okpara had a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kaitlin Tan, the 2021 Patriot League rookie of the year. Elizabeth Fahrmeier had a very close 2-6, 6-4, 14-12 defeat of Shelly Yaloz, and Lexi Dewire took down Erica Di Battista, 6-4, 6-7(4), 11-9.
Dartmouth is at the ITA Northeast Regionals at West Point, N.Y., next weekend.
