LEBANON — Amalia Hickey had two goals and two assists to help the Lebanon High field hockey team to a 7-1 win over visiting Merrimack Valley on Tuesday afternoon.
The season-opening victory also featured goals by Mikayla Thornton, Sally Tretter, Mackenzie Ray, Abigail Pauls and Meagan Thompson. Ray added a team-high three assists, and Tretter had a pair of helpers.
“We had a slow start, but our passing and off-ball movement got better with each quarter,” Lebanon coach Amanda Valliere said. “The team kept working and challenging themselves.”
Valliere praised the play of goalie Ashlee Blashock and the entire Lebanon defense for limiting Merrimack Valley all afternoon.
The Raiders host Goffstown on Friday.
GILFORD, N.H. — The Royals were shut out in their season opener at Gilford. Mascoma hits the road again on Friday, visiting Berlin.
AMHERST, N.H. — The Raiders scored in the third minute and never looked back in a strong win over the Sabers.
Sophie Longacre broke the ice early, scoring with an assist to Mary Rainey.
Delaney DeShane added an insurance strike in the 70th minute for Lebanon (2-0-0), which hasn’t yet surrendered a goal in this young season.
Keeper Maddie Newton (three saves) and the Raiders’ defense did the job all evening to limit the hosts.
Lebanon hosts ConVal on Friday at 4 p.m.
EXETER, N.H. — Hanover came out on the short end to drop to 0-2-0 to start the young season, its first playing a full-time NHIAA Division I schedule.
Noor van Aalst had a goal and an assist for Hanover. Maeve Lee also scored. Skouly Kachkis assisted on van Aalst’s goal. Exeter took the lead in the first minute, scoring on a corner play. Hanover tied it up on van Aalst’s goal before the hosts answered with two straight to take control.
Coach Doug Kennedy praised the play of van Aalst in the midfield and Elsa Bolinger on the back line.
Hanover visits Bedford at 7 p.m. on Friday.
LANGDON, N.H. — The Royals fell to 0-2-0 with the loss at the Wildcats.
Madisun LaCasse had a pair of goals to lead Mascoma. Emily Seiler added a goal and an assist. Kayli Staplefeld and Rhiannon Stone had one assist each.
Mascoma will continue its search for win No. 1 when Berlin comes to town on Friday.
HANOVER — Hanover (2-0-0) saw its match start an hour late because of Exeter bus issues and stall for another half-hour when the lights at Merriman-Branch Field went out, overcoming it all for a victory over the Blue Hawks.
Murphy Hunt scored two minutes into the match to get the hosts going, finishing an Eric Ringer throw-in. Exeter tied the contest in the 30th minute, but Ringer had the game-winning answer, potting the rebound of a Jacob Kubik-Pauw drive off the crossbar. Hunt also had an assist.
Goalkeeper Ty Nolon shook off the power outage to make a key late save on an Exeter restart to preserve the win.
Hanover will avoid the whole artificial illumination thing when it hosts Bedford on Saturday at 11 a.m.
