CONCORD — A 26-year-old Newport, N.H., man was sentenced to 70 months in prison on Friday after earlier pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of firearms.

Jacob Valley was charged with the firearms offense in 2019 after federal agents learned from sources and a YouTube video that Valley may have had guns at a home where he was living in Lempster, N.H., according to court documents. They obtained a warrant and searched the home and found an M15 semiautomatic rifle capable of accepting a large-capacity magazine as well as a .38-caliber Glock pistol, according to court documents.

Valley’s prior convictions include second-degree assault and witness tampering, theft by unauthorized taking, criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct and simple assault. A federal affidavit filed by ATF agent John Forte in 2019 also asserted that Valley is a “known” member of the Gangster Disciples gang.

Valley pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Concord in March to unlawful possession of a firearm and was sentenced Friday by Judge Steven McAuliffe.
