WINDSOR — This is going to be fun.

The Vermont Principals Association will host its Division III state track and field meet at Windsor High’s Murphy-Morse Complex next weekend. Thetford Academy has already won a meet on the oval this spring, and Woodstock stated its intent to be a title competitor at states by taking the girls’ half of a five-school meet at Murphy-Morse on Friday.

The Wasps claimed eight individual and relay victories to beat the hosts Yellowjackets by 64 points. Leland & Gray edged the hosts by a point in the boys’ meet.

Novah Conway swept the hurdles to lead Woodstock. She claimed the 100-meter race in 18.93 seconds and the 300 in 58.21. Ceanna Shehan (200 dash), Celia Weidemann (800 run), Farren Stainton (3,000 run) and Meridien Bremel (javelin) also won, as did Woodstock’s 4×400 relay team.

Janiah Young had a pair of wins for Windsor in the high jump and 100 dash, and teammate Olivia Kelly claimed the shot put. Megan Lang (long jump), Bethany Davis (400 dash) and Kayla Burnham (1,500 run, uncontested) earned victories for Hartford. Charlize Brown grabbed Thetford’s sole win in the pole vault.

The Windsor boys tuned for states with victories in two relays along with the 100 dash (Keegan Batchelder), 3,000 run (Liam Attwood), shot put (Logan Worrall), javelin (Ben Gilbert) and high jump (Kaleb Swett). Woodstock stayed close with victories from Zach Matsolf-Tan (long jump), Quinn Giordano (1,500 run), Zed McNaughton (400 dash) and Tyler Bean (200 dash).

Hartford, which doesn’t have its D-II state meet until June 7 at South Burlington High School, swept the 800-meter podium with Tanner Bessette, James Boulanger and Calvin McCrory. Finnian Sunde ran anchor for the trio to give the Canes a win in the 4×800 relay.

Thetford cleaned out the top three spots in the pole vault behind Knute Linehan, Finn Linehan and Mason Lefevre.

The VPA D-III state meet is May 29 at Windsor.

BASEBALL

Hanover 14, Plymouth 3 (5)

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Hanover (11-0) retained the top spot in the NHIAA Division II standings with its sixth run-rule win of the season.

The visitors managed seven hits on the day, but five errors by the Bobcats (5-4) opened the door to rallies in every inning. Ben Williams and John Hill both had two-hit afternoons for Hanover, which also picked up four solid frames and seven strikeouts from starting pitcher Sam Sacerdote. The Hanover pitcher also threw first-pitch strikes to 14 of the 19 batters he faced.

Hill drove in a team-best four runs, and Sacerdote finished with three RBIs. Hanover begins a season-ending home-and-home set with Lebanon on Monday.

GIRLS TENNIS

LEBANON — For the second time this week, the Raiders (8-3) gave the top team in NHIAA Division III a tussle in a closer-than-the-final-score-tells contest.

Undefeated Kearsarge took four of the six singles points, one from a Raider injury retirement and another in a tiebreaker. Kaeley Skakalski edged Becca MacDowell at No. 2, 9-7, and Sally Rainey prevailed at No. 6, 8-6, over Kennedy Geary for Lebanon’s points.

Skakalski and Keira Hines teamed up at first doubles for a 9-8 (5) victory to keep the match close, but the Cougars took the final two doubles points to prevail.
