NEWPORT, N.H. — A 19-year-old Claremont woman was treated for minor injuries after the all-terrain vehicle she was riding in crashed into a tree off a recreational trail in Newport on Tuesday, according to a news release from New Hampshire Fish and Game.
The teenager, Mikayla Simonds, was a passenger in the ATV, which was driven by an unnamed minor, the release said. She was treated at Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont.
The news release said it’s illegal for minors to operate ATVs with a passenger. The release did not say whether the minor had been charged.
The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday when the ATV driver and Simonds were riding on Sugar River Recreational Trail in Newport. The driver hit a “rough section of trail,” causing the ATV to veer off and hit the tree, the release said.
