GRAFTON, NH — William Emerson Hewitt, age 89, passed away Friday, March 12, 2021 at Crystal Lake Rehabilitation and Care Center in Pascoag, Rhode Island. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 24, 1931 to Mary (Anderson) and Emerson R. Hewitt.

Bill served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953 in the Korean War. Bill was decorated and earned 2 Bronze Stars for Valor.

Bill married Laura Belloir on September 6, 1969. Bill and Laura owned and operated the Grafton Garage in Grafton, NH for 30 years. Bill made many friendships over his lifetime and helped many people.

Bill loved spending time with his close friends, especially Bill Demers, around the table at ‘beer thirty’ sharing jokes and good stories.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Hewitt, on August 30, 2011, as well as two sons, Duane Hewitt and William Hewitt.

Bill is survived by his sons, Jay Hewitt of Attleboro, MA and Bruce Hewitt of Lebanon, NH; grandchildren, Jeremy Hewitt of East Providence, RI, Joseph Hewitt of Attleboro, MA, and Katie Hewitt of North Attleboro, MA; sister, Elizabeth Wooday of Edgewater, MD; nieces, Lauren Silex of Baltimore, MD, Leslie Shoenhard of Ocean View, DE, and Lois Byrd of Highland, MD; and many great-grandchildren, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Family and friends are invited to Memorial Calling Hours Friday, March 26, 2021 from 4-6:00 P.M. at Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon, NH. A Memorial Service will begin at 6:00 P.M. All planning to attend should wear masks and respect social distancing.

Bill’s urn will be placed at Pine Grove Cemetery in Grafton, NH at a later date.
