SUNAPEE — Voters on Tuesday narrowly defeated a $10.6 million bond vote for renovations and an extension to the Sunapee Central Elementary School.

But they did approve a $13 million school budget., 839-234. 

In a contested race for School Board, Scott Ritzmann defeated Michael Sizemore, 556-420.

The bond vote received a 56% percent majority, 634-493, but needed 60% to pass, or another 42 votes. This was the third straight defeat for a bond for the elementary school. Last year and in 2019 voters rejected $26 million proposals.

On the town side, a nearly $8.3 million operating budget for the town passed, 651-412.

Jeremy Hathorn and Josh Trow were elected to two seats on the Selectboard in a four-way race that included a write-in candidate.
