CONCORD — Should the Concord High boys hockey team require any references or reviews as it moves on in the NHIAA Division I state tournament, longtime Hanover coach Dick Dodds would probably be happy to help.

Dodds and his Marauders (3-10-0) saw their season come to a close on Wednesday night in a 5-1 first-round tournament loss to the Tide (13-2-0) at Everett Arena. Senior Tom Lyons scored Hanover’s only goal, and goalie Luke Ives kept busy with 35 saves.

The Marauders had the misfortune of running into Concord at both ends of its schedule. The Tide, which ended last year’s pandemic-stopped tourney as co-champions with Bedford, recorded 4-0 and 8-2 wins over Hanover to open the year and closed it in similar fashion.

“Concord is very deep and talented,” Dodds said. “Our kids worked hard and battled to the end. Incredible year for us. We played an incredibly tough schedule against top teams in New Hampshire. That challenged us and made us better this year and will certainly help our team next year.”

Ben Wagner joins Lyons as Hanover’s sole graduates.

BFA-St. Albans 1, Woodstock 0

ST. ALBANS, Vt. — The Bobwhites outlasted the Wasps (3-3-0) in a defensive battle at the Collins-Perley Sports Center.

Woodstock outshot BFA, 21-13, in a game the hosts claimed with a third-period goal. Netminder Keaton Piconi had another solid outing for the Wasps with 12 saves.

Woodstock visits Rutland on Saturday.

Hartford 4, Burr & Burton 3

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Hurricanes (2-4-0) picked up goals from four different skaters to reverse a 4-3 loss to the Bulldogs from last week and end a four-game losing streak.

Joseph Barwood, Jacob Dwinell, Blaine Bour and Ozzie DeFelice provided the scores for Hartford, which hosts U-32 on Saturday.

GIRLS HOCKEY

NC-LI 4, Woodstock 2

WOODSTOCK — Despite a 29-save effort from goaltender Ava Dodson, the Wasps (4-1-0) dropped their first game of the season in a two-goal loss to North Country-Lyndon at Union Arena.

Eliza Dodson got Woodstock on the board on an Isabel Konijnenberg assist midway through the first period. Konijnenberg added her team-best seventh goal of the season on a Hannah Gubbins pass in the middle stanza. A transfer from Massachusetts, Konijnenberg has scored at least one point in every Woodstock game at two in each of the last four.

The Wasps host CVU on Saturday.

Hartford 4, Rutland 3

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Nedra Dwinell scored her second goal in as many games and made it a game-winner to boot as the Hurricanes (3-3-0) topped the Raiders at Barwood Arena.

Sophomore Madelyn Durkee, a VPA member-to-member contributor from Thetford Academy, scored her first varsity goal for Hartford, which hosts Rice in the fourth game of a five-game homestand on Saturday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Oxbow 51, Blue Mountain 41

BRADFORD, Vt. — Getting strong first quarters and overall games from Emma Parkin and Arianna Bolles, the Olympians (5-1) built and early lead to fend off the Bucks at Mona Garone Gym.

Bolles had four of her season-high 16 points in the opening stanza and Parkin had six of her 12 as Oxbow jumped to a quick 14-8 lead. Bolles added another six points in the third quarter, in which the O’s turned a 25-15 halftime advantage into a more comfortable 41-27 edge.

Rachel Spear had seven points and Ellyn Hart netted six in her season debut for Oxbow. Rivendell visits the Olympians on Saturday.
