LEBANON — An afternoon of classic Love Songs will kick off Opera North’s “Always ON Sunday” series which begins at 2 p.m. on Valentine’s Day.
Opera North General Director Evans Haile will lead off the hourlong program by playing songs on his piano from New York City. He will be joined by Opera North alumni and future performers including Charles Calotta, George Dvorsky, Will Meinert, Emily Misch, Caitlin McKechney and Arianna Rodriguez. The performances — which include songs by George Gershwin and Patsy Cline, among other classic tunes — have been recorded separately and put together in one video for the program.
After people purchase their ticket for $15 at operanorth.org/always-on-sunday, they will be sent a Zoom link.
“You might not have that loved one right next to you especially right now, but we’re always thinking about someone who is special to us and we thought, ‘What a great way to kick off this series,’ ” Haile said. “Not to mention that, let’s face it, it’s right in the dead of winter when we need a little warmth around us to remind us that spring is on its way.”
“Always ON Sunday” is modeled after a previous Opera North program where performers would visit people’s homes to perform. The virtual program series will also take place on Feb. 21 with “Running Away to the Circus with Mark Lonergan, Big Apple Circus Artistic Director,” Feb. 18 with “The Coach’s Corner: Opera North Artistic Director Louis Burkot & Soprano Arianna Rodriguez” and March 7 with “A Musical, Moveable Feast: State Director Helena Binder on Creating a New La Bohème for Opera North.” Each program begins at 2 p.m.
“We figure that especially when many are still in quarantine and COVID still being part of our lives, it would be a great idea to have a virtual (program) on Sundays,” Haile said. “With each of these programs, you get some conversation, you get some insights and you get to know a little about Opera North in ways you might not have thought of.”
