HANOVER, NH — George Gulick died on January 5, 2021 at the age of 86. George was born in Rochester NY, where he lived through high school. He attended Cornell University (Chemical Engineering ‘56) and Harvard University (MBA ‘59). He met Barbara (Bobbie) Whittle in high school and they married the week they both received their undergraduate degrees. They were together for 71 years, and married for 63.

After graduating from Harvard Business School, George worked for Kodak in Rochester for 12 years. Kodak moved him, Bobbie and their four children to London to establish a new Kodak subdivision that operated throughout the emerging EU. He worked for Kodak in London for 21 years until retirement. He traveled extensively for work, and also for pleasure, throughout Europe and the US. Always a teacher at heart, he taught part time for Britain’s Open University MBA Program and delighted in working with his students.

George and Bobbie moved to Salt Ash Farm in Shrewsbury, Vermont after he retired, making frequent trips to their English cottage Kynance in Chipperfield. George loved the opportunity to be outdoors on the Vermont farm; there were days that it was a challenge to get him to come in for dinner as he would have happily stayed out until the light disappeared. He was always an outdoorsman; he enjoyed camping, skiing, canoeing and gardening. He hiked multiple long-distance routes across the UK with a close knit group of transatlantic walkers over many years.

George is survived by his wife Bobbie, four children, Gretchen, Heidi (Jorge), George (Vivienne), Kirstie (Micah), nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. We will miss his calm character, engaging humorous stories and intellectual conversations. He was an empathetic and tolerant free spirit, and truly a sweet soul.

A private celebration of his life will take place at his beloved Salt Ash Farm at a later date.
