HANOVER, NH — Eugenia L. Koburger died in her sleep January 25th. She was born in Leesburg, Florida in April 1924, the first child of Christine (Bailey) and Leon Edward Turner. She grew up in northern Florida and southern Georgia, graduating from Camilla, Georgia, High School in 1941. When WWII broke out, she left college to join the Red Cross.

When the war ended, Eugenia took a Red Cross assignment to war-worn Vienna, Austria. In Austria, the southern girl met Charles Koburger, Jr., a New York Yankee and army officer. The couple was married in Vienna, Austria, in 1947. They had a daughter (Ann MacKenzie) the next year, and a son (Charles W. Koburger, III) in 1950. Eugenia worked as a homemaker until her children went to college, after which she worked for The International Exhibitions Foundation, a DC-based art exhibition organizer.

Eugenia and Charles were avid travelers and loved seeing the world. Over the course of their 60+ years of marriage, they explored and lived in Austria, Georgia, Texas, Oregon, New York state, Virginia, Florida, Turkey, England, and Syria.

Eugenia was a wonderful cook and seamstress. Her favorite meal was Apalachicola oysters with a glass of wine. She loved theatre and music and read avidly. She was a crossword enthusiast and was still working crosswords at age 96. After the death of her husband, Eugenia moved to New Hampshire to be near her son, and lived comfortably in Wheelock Terrace until her passing.

Eugenia is survived by her daughter Ann MacKenzie, son Charles (Penny) Koburger III, three granddaughters Alice (Eric) Riethman, Marga Koburger, and Althea Koburger, and great-grandson Luke Riethman.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the American Red Cross.
